Event: SSI at IUMI 2026

SSI’s CEO Ellie Besley-Gould joined a panel at the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) 2026 annual conference in Rotterdam. She was joined by Sean Dalton of Munich Re, IUMI Vice President and incoming President, and SSI member rep Ben Bailey, Director of Programme at The Mission to Seafarers. Pauline des Vallières, Chair of the IUMI Sustainability Working Group, moderated the session.

The conference marked a notable shift for the hull and machinery (H&M) insurance market. Sean Dalton committed to making crew wellbeing a major priority for his presidency, and IUMI launched its Crew Wellbeing Checklist for Underwriters.

"The H&M insurance market moving from interested observer to active participant is a significant moment," said Ellie.

For SSI, the insurance sector's growing engagement matters. Underwriters shape how the industry assesses and prices risk, and bringing crew wellbeing into that process creates a practical lever for improving conditions for seafarers.
