Report : Shipping and Ocean Health 2026

Published by the Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI) as host of the Marine Biodiversity and Ocean Health (MBOH) Breakthrough Initiative, Shipping and Ocean Health 2026 establishes the baseline from which progress towards reducing shipping’s impact on marine biodiversity by 30% by 2030 will be measured.

The report assesses progress across 28 roadmap actions, highlighting where momentum is building, where gaps remain, and where the sector must accelerate action.

Key findings include:

• Strongest progress where ocean health and decarbonisation goals align.

• Significant gaps in ocean finance, marine spatial planning, pollution investment, and data sharing.

• A need for stronger data infrastructure to track progress and build confidence at scale.
