Initiative : Ship Recycling at Alang-Sosiya

SSI's ship recycling work is moving from field research into active engagement with both industry and government on how to scale what is working at Alang.

Our research at HKC-certified facilities found a cluster with a solid safety floor, but one where the systems that keep it safe, transparent and efficient, from supervisory knowledge to incident learning, still sit yard by yard rather than shared across the cluster.

That evidence has fed into our work with the Basel Convention, an insight brief for TERI on India's 2047 roadmap, and conversations now underway with SRIA and India's Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) on what shared, cluster wide infrastructure could look like.
