Working with leading marine insurers, lenders and investors, SSI has developed the first rigorous, independent assessment linking crew welfare to safety risk. For fatigue, mental health, and psychological safety, the correlation with safety outcomes is already clear, yet these factors rarely appear in the information underwriting and credit decisions rely on, so the market routinely assesses risk on an incomplete picture.
The findings show there are ‘no-regret’ steps that can be taken on welfare today, and the collaboration behind this report is already raising ambition across the industry, with insurers, lenders and investors beginning to respond.
SSI is working with partners to use their existing risk assessment and engagement processes to drive improved welfare on board.
