The Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI) convened a roundtable in Singapore, hosted by RightShip, bringing together charterers and insurers to explore a central question: could seafarer welfare, made visible and verifiable at the vessel level, be useful enough to change commercial decisions?

SSI’s CEO Ellie Besley-Gould joined a panel at the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) 2026 annual conference in Rotterdam. She was joined by Sean Dalton of Munich Re, IUMI Vice President and incoming President, and SSI member rep Ben Bailey, Director of Programme at The Mission to Seafarers. Pauline des Vallières, Chair of the IUMI Sustainability Working Group, moderated the session.
